A story that generated so much attention has now inspired a group to act. You may remember Tiger, the dog who was left out in the cold last week, who then disappeared, only to be brought back to his owner. Well Friday, a small protest was held in front of Hamilton City Hall with the goal of bringing about change for animals like Tiger.

There are about 15 protesters here with the goal of changing laws in order to protect animals who may be neglected by their owner.

We first met Tiger last week when a neighbour called our newsroom to bring our attention to a dog who had been left outside for days in temperatures that reached minus 40 degrees. She said that his water was frozen and Tiger was shivering. Despite that, he remained chained up outside. The Hamilton-Burlington SPCA launched an investigation that was interrupted when Tiger disappeared having apparently been dog napped. After tiger was returned, the SPCA met with his owner and declared tigers living conditions to be safe.

One member of the groups says that they have contacted council about a possible by-law that would give police the power to remove animals from a dangerous situation similar to a law in Toronto.  Also, the SPCA is governed by the province, so members of this group say they will also be at Queen’s Park in the spring in the hopes of enacting change.  As for Tiger, he has not been seen since.
