With the wet and soggy weather we’ve had this spring one festival in Port Dalhousie has been washed up.

With Lakeside Park still flooded there will be little to celebrate about in Port Dalhousie. This time last year the park was turned into a carnival. The annual event was cancelled this year because of record-breaking water levels in Lake Ontario and that has also had an impact on local businesses.

Mackie’s Harbourfront Market says the wet weather has pushed them two months behind and Ziegler Boutique says this long weekend is make it or break it for them.

Fences and sandbags still line the walkways along the pier and while most of the construction around the park is complete, the ground is still saturated with water.

But, it’s not all bad news.

The park’s signature carousel will open for Canada Day. Six weeks later than it was originally scheduled to open because of the soggy conditions. An artisan market is also being planned in Hogans Alley which is steps from the lake.

Rennie Park in St.Catharines will be a hub of activity. There will be games, buskers and live entertainment. Rennie Park will also be a good place for people to catch fireworks. With the wet weather, fireworks that normally go off at Lakeside Park will now be set off at Henley Island.
