Poor driving leads to drug bust

First Published:

A Hamilton man was taken in police custody over the weekend and faces several charges after cutting somebody off.

Police say an officer saw a grey Honda Civic cut off another car as it headed southbound on Queen St. East.

The vehicle was stopped on King St. West at Queen St. North.

While interacting with the driver, the officer detected an odor of alcohol coming from him.

After continued investigation, the officer learned the driver was in violation of a court-ordered curfew condition.

The driver refused to provide a roadside breath sample.

He was arrested and a search revealed a large sum of money.

A search of the driver’s vehicle revealed a small powdery substance believed to be cocaine on the driver’s seat, along with drug paraphernalia and a black satchel containing illicit drugs.

Police seized cocaine, fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and $1,250 in cash as evidence.

A 21-year-old Hamilton man is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, failure to comply with breath demand and disobeying a court order.

He was also charged with failure to signal lane change and possession of more than one license.

If you have any information that you believe could assist Police with the investigation into this crime, you are asked to contact the Central Station Staff Sergeant’s Office by calling 905-546-4725.
