A Toronto man has been arrested after trying to dodge a R.I.D.E. stop in Hamilton’s east end Monday night.

Hamilton officers were conducting a check near Kenilworth Ave. and McAnulty Blvd. around 8:30 p.m.

They spotted a driver stop and do a U-turn while approaching the police stop.

Officers went after the car and were able to box in the vehicle at Kenilworth Ave. and Dofasco Rd.

The driver, whose licence had previously been suspended, was arrested without incident.

While searching the vehicle, police found a bag of cannabis weighing nearly one pound.

Police say the driver has now been released.

The 36-year-old faces several charges including careless driving and failing to stop when directed by police.

He’s also facing a charge of possession of cannabis over 30 grams in a public place under the Cannabis Act.
