Police investigating after expletives yelled at minister McKenna’s staff

First Published:

Ottawa police are investigating after someone yelled obscenities at a member of federal cabinet minister Catherine McKenna’s staff on Thursday.

A video is circulating on social media that appears to have been shot by the person who was yelling.

After being told the office was closed due to COVID-19, the individual yells expletives and insults at the employee about McKenna and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

McKenna, who is infrastructure minister, says she has been in touch with both the Ottawa Police Service as well as the RCMP.

This isn’t the first time McKenna has been targeted.

Vulgar and sexist graffiti was spray-painted across the front of her campaign office following the 2019 election.

“My family, my staff and I deal with abusive behaviour on a regular basis,” said McKenna in a statement.

“That in unacceptable and I am committed to working across party lines to make it stop.”

McKenna says such incidents have become increasingly common for politicians.
