Police investigate overnight homicide in Hamilton

First Published:

Hamilton police are investigating an overnight homicide at an apartment building in the city’s east end.

Emergency crews responded to a medical call just before 2 a.m. Friday at 205 Melvin Ave.

The brand new affordable housing building just opened its doors two months ago.

55 year old Michel Pilon was found dead inside one of the apartments.

57 year old George Opassinis was arrested and charged with first degree murder.

“We believe at this time that this was a dispute between people that knew each other and there was no threat to public safety.” Det. Sgt. Dave Oleniuk, Hamilton police.

Police wouldn’t comment on the nature of the homicide but say all men are know to police.

This is the city’s eighth homicide in 2018.

Police are currently on scene and are asking any witnesses with information that could help with the investigation to call Det. Catherine Lockley at 905-546-3825.
