Police: don’t call Niagara Falls shooting a drive-by

The Niagara Falls house that was targeted in a shooting over the weekend continues to be cordoned off by police two days later.

The house at the corner of Dell and Skinner was hit with more than a dozen bullets around 6:30 Sunday morning. Police were still counting the number of bullet holes yesterday afternoon, but the forensics unit hasn’t yet concluded its investigation.

Media constable Phil Gavin is downplaying the circumstances. “Right now we would like to call it a shooting incident. A drive-by shooting brings pictures to people’s minds of Hollywood-type things of people hanging out of cars and shooting up the neighbourhood.”

“We don’t have any evidence that is what this is. This could be someone walking by. This could be someone on a bicycle. We don’t want to narrow the scope of what this could be by calling it a drive-by shooting. A shooting incident is more appropriate.”

No one was injured in the incident, but residents say they are in a state of shock and are worried that the shooters may return. Dell remains closed at the corner of Skinner as police continue investigating.
