Peter Shurman’s second home

First Published:

The Globe and Mail is reporting that Progressive Conservative MPP and Finance Critic Peter Shurman has claimed more than $20,000 in taxpayer money for his second home in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Shurman also has his own airplane, a Beechcraft Bonanza F33, which he uses to fly to Florida.

The Globe and Mail says Shurman claimed the maximum amount of money permitted from a housing allowance set up to help representatives of faraway constituencies pay for accommodations in Toronto.

Tim Hudak’s office says the party leader is unavailable to comment, and will not be issuing a statement.

Shurman received the funds, because he claims his Niagara-on-the-Lake home as his primary residence. The newspaper claims Shurman uses the money to help pay rent on his Toronto apartment. Shurman has said he bought the house, because he needed somewhere to retire, adding that he couldn’t pay for two residences without assistance.
