Peregrine falcon chicks banded and named at Sheraton Hotel

First Published:

Falcon Watch volunteers marked the city’s beloved peregrine falcon chicks on Friday.

Four peregrine falcons were banded at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Hamilton.

The volunteers say that the chicks are marked so that they can be tracked along their lifetimes.

The chicks were collected from their nest that was under close watch by their parents McKeever and Judson. They are then identified, weighed, and named.

The two males’ names are Belfour and Dundurn and the two females’ names are Wynnstau and Auchmar.

The peregrines have around 20,000 feathers and each band weighs less than a single feather so there’s no inconvenience to the falcons.
