Passengers “restless”, Westerdam turned away again

First Published:

Thailand’s Public Health Minister announced today that he has ordered authorities to prevent the M-S Westerdam from docking at Thai Ports in case of potential Coronavirus. This comes one day after the cruise ship had announced to it’s around 1500 passengers they were given permission to dock at the Laem Chabang port in Thailand on Thursday.

The ship has already been denied access to ports in Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines since deporting on February 1st.

CHCH News has been in contact with one of the passengers who is from Niagara Falls. She says everyone on board has been in “good spirits” but she has noticed people are getting restless following this recent news. Some passengers changed their flight plans to return home from Taiwan after they docked but will have to do it again.

Holland-America, the cruise line that the Westerdam belongs to, says, “We are actively working this matter and will provide an update when able. We know this is confusing for our guests and their families and we greatly appreciate their patience.”

There is no confirmed cases of Coronavirus on the Westerdam.
