Other officers involved in violent arrest of Indigenous man in Hamilton not under investigation

First Published:

Hamilton police say they will not be investigating or pursuing any disciplinary action for the other officers present in the violent arrest of an Indigenous man.

The city’s police service told CHCH News that the force used toward Patrick Tomchuk by the other officers was in line with their standards and the situation at hand.

Police also say the incident was reported immediately and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was contacted the next day. The SIU did not invoke their mandate and an internal investigation was conducted.

Constable Brian Wren was suspended and charged with assault because of the incident. His next court date is August 18.
