OPSEU calls for OPP investigation into COVID-19 deaths in long-term care

First Published:

OPSEU wants provincial police to investigate COVID-19 deaths in Ontario’s long-term care homes.

Ontario Public Service Employees Union president Warren “Smokey” Thomas says Premier Doug Ford should call for an investigation.

“Maybe it will take someone going to jail to end this carnage,” said Thomas in a news release.

Based on data released by the province on Thursday, 2,099 residents of long-term care homes have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Twelve of those deaths came on Wednesday.

“Enough is enough,” said Thomas. “Perhaps the Premier isn’t being told the truth about why all these deaths are happening, and what has to be done to stop them.

“The truth needs to come out. Someone has to be held to account.”
