Ontario Provincial Police say this year’s Festive RIDE Campaign is about both alcohol and drug-impaired drivers.
This is the first holiday RIDE campaign since recreational marijuana became legal.
According to OPP, 39 people have died in impaired driving crashes so far this year on OPP-patrolled roads.
“The biggest issue is the collisions that are claiming people’s lives and are causing serious injuries,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
Officers have laid more than 6,700 impaired driving charges from Jan. 1 to Oct. 15.
The Festive RIDE Campaign runs from Nov. 23 to Jan. 2.
