OPP searches for man, 20, who went missing at Elora Gorge

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after a 20-year-old man went missing while swimming at the Elora Gorge.

Officers were called to reports of a possible drowning at the Elora Gorge of the Grand River Conservation Authority on Wellington Rd. 18 in Elora around 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the man was swimming and went under the water but failed to resurface.

OPP, Centre Wellington Fire Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service responded to the area but could not locate the man.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit has been called in to assist.

The Elora Gorge is a popular tourist attraction located north of Guelph. It is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
