OPP continues search for missing boater on Lake Erie

First Published:

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will resume their search Friday morning for a missing boater on Lake Erie.

Officers were called to the area of Featherstone Park around 11:51 a.m. Thursday.

Police were told a 48-year-old man had gone out fishing around 11 a.m. in a small boat off the shoreline.

About an hour later, a friend checked the lake through a telescope from shore and noticed the boat was empty.

The Haldimand County OPP Marine Unit, Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre and OPP helicopter searched the area and located the unoccupied vessel.

Police say they suspended their search effort at dusk.

Members of the Emergency Response Team also searched the shoreline area.

The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit is set to resume their search Friday morning.

Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is asked to contact 1-888-310-1122.
