OPP charge 4 people, seize 1,800 cannabis plants worth $1.8M

Four people from different areas across the GTA are facing numerous drug-trafficking charges after the Ontario Provincial Police uncovered 1,800 cannabis plants worth over $1.8 million.

On Mar. 8, members of OPP’s Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team executed search warrants in seven different GTA locations.

On top of contraband cannabis, police uncovered suspected cocaine, fentanyl, ketamine and psilocybin, as well as a high-end vehicle worth $90,000 and watches valued at $40,000.

Investigators also reportedly seized $282,980 in Canadian currency, $41,060 in US currency and several digital devices involved in crime such as phones, laptops, computers and tablets.

Chien-Ying Lee, 38, of Scarborough is facing over 10 separate charges including:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Cultivate or harvest cannabis plants

Fu-Lin Wang, 27, of Scarborough is charged with similar offences including:

  • Possession for the purpose of distributing
  • Cultivate or harvest cannabis plants
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000

Xiaozhe Jia, 27, of Thornhill and Nam Hei Chan, 21 of Scarborough are also facing a long list of charges.

Police say the accused have all been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court in April.
