The high-profile trial of a former police officer accused of murder in the death of a Black man kicks off Monday in Minneapolis.

Derek Chauvin is accused of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

Floyd was declared dead on May 25 after Chauvin pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes.

Floyd was handcuffed at the time.

The case brought police violence and race relations to the forefront in the U.S. and around the world.
