Ontario reports 821 new COVID-19 cases, three new deaths

Ontario is reporting 821 new cases of COVID-19 and three new deaths.

Over 70 per cent of new cases are in the province’s hotspots of Toronto, Peel, York and Ottawa.

Another 628 cases have been marked as resolved, according to numbers released by the province on Tuesday.

The province completed just 24,049 tests, while another 24,129 are backlogged and remain under investigation.

Overall, just under 86 per cent of cases of COVID-19 in Ontario are resolved.

There have been 3,053 COVID-19 deaths.

There are 274 people in hospital. Of those, 72 are in intensive care and 45 of those are on ventilators.

Here’s how the numbers break down in our region:

Haldimand-Norfolk: 1 new case, 7 active cases

Brant: 7 new cases, 19 active cases

Six Nations: 4 new cases, 32 active cases

Niagara: 16 new cases, 78 active cases

Halton: 31 new cases, 233 active cases

Local information will be added when public health units report their data. 

McMaster University is reporting its seventh case of COVID-19 on campus.

The province also reported 121 new COVID-19 cases related to schools, including at least 75 among students.
