Ontario reports 613 new COVID-19 cases Monday

First Published:

Ontario is reporting 613 new COVID-19 cases Monday and no new deaths related to the virus.

Of the new cases reported today, 454 cases are in individuals who are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 159 are in fully vaccinated individuals.

There were 135 new school-related cases reported, with the majority in students. More than one-third of today’s new cases are in people aged 20-39.

The data is based on 22,633 tests completed on the previous day.

The province says 37,645 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the last 24-hour period for a total of more than 21.6 million.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says nearly 86 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and nearly 80 per cent have two doses.

Elliott says 186 people are currently in hospital due to COVID-19. She says of those in hospital, 177 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and seven are fully vaccinated.

There are currently 184 patients in intensive care with COVID-related critical illnesses and 130 on ventilators.

Of the province’s 626 long-term care homes, at least 17 are in an outbreak including Macassa Lodge in Hamilton, Pine Villa Nursing Home in Stoney Creek, St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas, the Meadows of Dorchester in Niagara Falls, R. H. Lawson Eventide Home in Niagara Falls and Hampton Terrace Care Centre in Burlington.

An active COVID-19 outbreak indicates that the home has at least one lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 (in resident or staff) and the local public health unit or the home has declared an outbreak.
