Ontario reports 574 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday

First Published:

Ontario is reporting 574 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday and eight more deaths related to the virus.

The data is based on more than 23,631 tests completed on the previous day.

The province says 30,072 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the last 24-hour period for a total of nearly 21.4 million.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says 85.2 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and nearly 79.2 per cent have two doses.

Elliott says 330 people are currently in hospital due to COVID-19. She says of those in hospital, 303 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 27 are fully vaccinated.

Elliots says 179 people are in intensive care due to the virus, with only nine of those people fully vaccinated.

Of the province’s 626 long-term care homes, at least ten are in an outbreak including Macassa Lodge in Hamilton and Hampton Terrace Care Centre in Burlington.

An active COVID-19 outbreak indicates that the home has at least one lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 (in resident or staff) and the local public health unit or the home has declared an outbreak.
