Ontario is reporting 459 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, bringing the provincial total to 16,187.
The updated numbers include 86 deaths, the largest daily total so far.
Nearly 1,000 people are in hospital with the virus, with 233 in intensive care units and of those patients, 181 are on a ventilator.
There have been 277,522 COVID-19 tests completed since Jan. 15. Roughly 13,000 tests were done on Wednesday and 11,859 cases are still under investigation.
The province says 44.8 per cent of the confirmed cases are people who are 60 years of age or older.
Nine more outbreaks have been declared at long-term care homes in the province, bringing the total to 190.
The Greater Toronto Area public health units account for 59.5 per cent of all cases.
As of Wednesday, Niagara Region had 478 cases of COVID-19, Hamilton had 425, and Halton Region had 448 confirmed cases.
