Ontario reports 2,655 COVID-19 cases, 89 deaths

Ontario reported 2,655 cases of COVID-19 and 89 deaths on Wednesday.

The number of resolved cases outpaced new ones with the province marking 3,714 cases as resolved.

There were 54,307 tests completed. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were performed, is 4.9 per cent.

Hamilton

  • 8,356 total cases — up 66 from Tuesday
  • 7,136 resolved cases
  • 783 active cases
  • 227 deaths — up three from Tuesday
  • 113 in hospital

Halton

  • 7,693 total cases — up 54 from Tuesday
  • 7,104 resolved cases
  • 443 active cases
  • 146 deaths
  • 35 in hospital

Niagara

  • 6,884 total cases — up 89 from Tuesday
  • 4,976 resolved cases
  • 1,669 active cases
  • 239 deaths — up 16 from Tuesday
  • 2,441 vaccinations administered
  • 74 in hospital

Brant

  • 1,271 total cases — up three from Tuesday
  • 1,194 resolved cases
  • 71 active cases
  • 6 deaths
  • 5 in hospital
  • 2,067 vaccinations administered

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 1,263 total cases — up 26 from Tuesday
  • 1,037 resolved cases
  • 183 active cases
  • 38 deaths

Six Nations

  • 133 total cases
  • 123 resolved cases
  • 9 active cases
  • 1 death

The death toll is now 5,568 people with nearly 59 per cent of those deaths reported in residents of long-term care.

There are 1,598 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, including 395 in ICU. There are 296 patients on ventilators.

There were 13,784 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Ontario on Tuesday.

A total of 237,918 doses have been given as of 8 p.m. Tuesday.
