Ontario reports 1,740 COVID-19 cases, 63 more deaths

Ontario reported 1,740 cases of COVID-19 and 63 deaths on Tuesday, while completing just over 30,700 tests.

As of 8 p.m. Monday, 295,817 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given, with 9,707 of those shots administered on Monday.

There are 83,285 completed vaccinations in the province.

Another 2,261 cases have been marked as resolved.

Hamilton

  • 8,832 total cases — up 66 from Monday
  • 7,779 resolved cases
  • 688 active cases
  • 240 deaths — up eight from Monday
  • 126 in hospital

Halton

  • 8,108 total cases — up 52 from Monday
  • 7,499 resolved cases
  • 455 active cases
  • 154 deaths — up one from Monday
  • 39 in hospital

Niagara

  • 7,445 total cases — up 94 from Monday
  • 5,738 resolved cases
  • 1,423 active cases
  • 284 deaths — up eight from Monday
  • 3,641 vaccinations administered
  • 47 in hospital

Brant

  • 1,317 total cases — up eight from Monday
  • 1,264 resolved cases
  • 46 active cases
  • 7 deaths
  • 2,552 vaccinations administered
  • Six in hospital

Haldimand Norfolk

  • 1,294 total cases — up three from Monday
  • 1,151 resolved cases
  • 100 active cases
  • 38 deaths

Six Nations

  • 144 total cases — up one from Monday
  • 131 resolved cases
  • 12 active cases
  • 1 death

Numbers reported Tuesday come as the province completed 30,717 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were administered, is 5.9 per cent.

There are 1,466 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, down from the 1,626 reported one week ago. Of those, 383 are in intensive care and 298 of those are on ventilators.

A total of 5,909 people in the province have died of COVID-19, with nearly 59 per cent of those deaths reported in residents of long-term care.
