The mayors of Ontario’s largest cities say they need emergency funding.
The Large Urban Mayors’ Caucus of Ontario are looking to the federal and provincial governments to provide relief.
“This has been an ongoing ask for the better part of three months. We are bleeding revenues and adding additional costs for all of our municipalities,” Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger told Morning Live.
Discussions are happening with both levels of government, though not as quickly as Eisenberger would like.
Hamilton, like many other municipalities, is facing tough financial times.
“Our only resource is to go to the tax base or cut services significantly,” he said, noting neither would help the economic recovery.
The group is calling for at least $10 billion in relief funding for municipalities across the country.
