UPDATE: Two killed, 13 injured in shooting in Toronto’s Greektown

Toronto Police are investigating Sunday night’s mass shooting in the busy Danforth neighbourhood that left two people dead, 18 year old Reese Fallon of Toronto and a 10 year old girl from the GTA.

13 others victims ranging in age from 17 to 59 are being treated in hospital, police say some of those injuries are minor while others are “life-altering.”

In total, 16 people including the gunman were shot.

The shooting began around 10 p.m. Sunday on Danforth Ave. near Logan ave.

The area was busy at the time with people all along the street, which is lined with bars and restaurants.

Officials say shots were fired as the suspect walked down the street.

He died at the scene.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has opened an investigation into police’s interaction with the man.

According to investigators, officers located the man on Bowden St. The gunman exchanged fire with two police officers before fleeing the area.  He was located dead on Danforth Ave. about 100 meters away.

In an update Monday afternoon, the police watchdog identified the man as 29 year old Faisal Hussain from Toronto.

There is a post-mortem scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The family of Faisal Hussain say that he suffered from severe mental health problems his entire life and they issued a statement saying:

“We are at a terrible loss for words but we must speak out to express our deepest condolences to the families who are now suffering on account of our son’s horrific actions”

“Our hearts are in pieces for the victims and for our city.”

A video from one witness shows a man dressed in black firing three shots from the sidewalk into at least one shop or restaurant.

Officials are urging any witnesses to come forward and for anyone who may have security video or dashcam video to contact police.
