One inmate dead, 5 in hospital following suspected overdoses at Milton jail

Halton police say one inmate is dead and five are in hospital following a suspected drug overdose at a correctional facility in Milton.
Police and paramedics were called to the Maplehurst Correctional Facility on Tuesday around 5:50 p.m. for multiple inmates requiring medical attention.
Police say all five inmates were within the same cell block. They cannot immediately comment on the type of drug used, how it was used or how it came into the possession of the
inmates.
Detectives continue to investigate along with the coroner and Maplehurst staff.
Earlier this month another overdose happened at the Barton St. jail in Hamilton just 24 hours after 15 crosses were put up outside to remember the lives lost in the facility to overdose.
Paul Miller, MPP for Hamilton-East brought this up in question period, Ontario’s Solicitor General, Sylvia Jones responded,
“What I am doing is not waiting for recommendations, I am not waiting to react, we’ve already made some quantitative changes that are seeing improvements, but it takes time.”
