One dead, two hurt after crane crash

First Published:

In Toronto, at least one person is dead and two others injured after a construction crane collapsed at York University.

Police and emergency officials say one of the injured was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated as a surgical team stood by in case amputation was needed.

The man who died is still buried in the debris. His name is not being released at this time.

A spokesperson on the scene says there could be as many as three or four more victims.

The crane was working at a construction site near the Schulich School of Business and the area is a loop for GO and TTC buses.

It’s not immediately known what caused the crane to collapse; Ontario’s labour ministry is investigating.
