Off-duty Hamilton officer charged with assault in Quebec

A Hamilton police constable is facing an assault charge after an incident in Quebec last month.

Hamilton Police say the Surete du Québec were called to a commercial premises in the area of Otter Lake on July 14 around 4 p.m.

Two men had a verbal altercation over alleged damage to property earlier in the day.

The argument continued when one of them returned and police were called.

Const. Jeff Coleman was charged with assault level one.

The other man is also facing charges in this incident.

Coleman is a 22-year-member of the Hamilton Police force.

He is due in court in October.

The Hamilton Police Service will be conducting an investigation under the Police Services Act.
