Norfolk County OPP respond to near drowning of two-year-old

First Published:

Norfolk County OPP say a toddler is expected to recover after he nearly drowned in a backyard swimming pool.

Police were called to a home on 2nd Concession Rd. ENR around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

They say a family member spotted the boy face down in the pool, pulled him out of the water and started performing CPR.

An ambulance took the boy to hospital.

Police say it was a close call and are reminding parents to put lifejackets or floatation devices on kids who are weak swimmers.

“Young children or non-swimmers should always wear a PFD while in or near the water in case they become in distress,” said Insp. Joseph Varga, Norfolk County OPP.

“This can make the difference between surviving, or not.”
