No charges laid in online threats against Dr. Hirji: Niagara police

First Published:

Niagara police say they’ve concluded their investigation into online threats made against Dr. Mustafa Hirji.

A Facebook post about Dr. Hirji, Niagara Region’s Acting Medical Officer of Health, circulated online earlier this month and included comments to fire, assault and even kill him.

Those calls came following the decision to keep Niagara Region in grey-lockdown level COVID-19 restrictions.

The threats prompted calls of support for Dr. Hirji, including from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier Doug Ford.

Niagara police say they have wrapped up their investigation.

“In consultation with Dr. Hirji, at this time criminal charges are not being laid,” said police spokesperson Stephanie Sabourin in an email.
