Niagara police are asking for the public’s help in locating a woman after an elderly person was defrauded.

Officers responded to a residence on June 21 in Niagara-on-the-Lake for reports of a scam.

An elderly woman said they received a phone call from someone claiming to be her grandson. The man said he had been arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and needed help in order to be released from custody.

The elderly woman was told to go to her bank to withdraw funds. Shortly after arriving home, a female suspect arrived at her residence to pick up the funds.

The victim later spoke with her grandson and learned he had not been arrested by the RCMP.

Police describe the female suspect as Black and between 35-45 years old. She was last seen with black hair in a bun, wearing a white sleeveless blouse, black pants, black sandals, carrying a beige purse and with a tattoo on her left wrist.
