Niagara man charged in Niagara Falls jewelry store theft

Niagara Regional Police have arrested and charged a man after $2,800 worth of jewelry was stolen from a local store on Tuesday.

Officers responded to a call from a jewelry store at around 2 p.m. and surrounded the area searching for the man.

With help from the public, officers found the suspect’s vehicle unoccupied in the Silvertown area of Niagara Falls.

Three people left in the vehicle around 4 p.m. and were arrested by police a short distance away.

Investigators soon found the stolen jewelry and returned it to the store.

Luizao Castro, 28, of Niagara Falls was charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of probation.

The other two people were released without conditions.
