A massive redevelopment project on Clifton Hill has started to take shape. When completed the 9 acre site will include an updated Ripley’s museum, increased parking, a go-cart track and a new interactive theatre attraction.
The mutlimillion dollar renovation is the biggest update since 2005 when the owner of Ripley’s, Canadian billionaire Jim Pattison, changed the exterior of the museum to include King Kong on top of the Empire State building. The new look museum will include more than 12 themed rooms and over 800 exhibits including one that pays homage to Niagara Falls.
The 53-year-old attraction isn’t the only thing creating buzz on the block. The construction site used to be the home of a Comfort Inn, but come 2017 it will be home to a new elevate go kart track. Construction on the Niagara Speedway started last year. It will be the largest elevated go kart track in North America and the first of its kind in Canada.
Mayor Jim Diodati says the new upgrades and additions will keep tourists here longer.
“We are doing a lot of streetscape improvements, working with the business improvement area merchants and looking at ways at increasing traffic. So widening sidewalks making it more pedestrian friendly.”
