Niagara Falls mayor talks COVID-19 restrictions, local economy, QR codes, plans for 2022

Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara will temporarily close all casino and resort operations as of Wednesday. The decision was made in light of the new restrictions announced the Ontario Government. Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati sat down with Morning Live to restrictions and how it will impact the city.

He says the news of new restrictions in the province and casinos closing is thought for the city of Niagara Falls.

“People don’t just come to Niagara Falls to stay in hotels, they come to visit the casino, go to the restaurants, the attractions, shopping, things like that,” said Diodati. “For the next three weeks, we know our hotels are going to be empty… my only suggestion to people is to consider getting take-out from local restaurants, buy gift certificates or gift cards from businesses that are closed right now.”

He says he is hoping the pandemic is coming to an end and has big plans for Niagara Falls. This includes the GO train downtown, a downtown rezoning, a new $140 million entertainment centre, a new hospital and a new university.

“Despite the pandemic, we’ve been moving the ball forward and our plan is to get things across the finish line,” said Diodati.
