A warning is being raised for people applying for a Nexus card. The trusted traveller program between the United States and Canada has exploded in popularity. However, unscrupulous operators have found a way to cash in on the Nexus craze by charging people hundreds of dollars to simply fill out an application.

One applicant was charged $180 USD on the fake website, which is $130 more than an official government Nexus application. The real application has a $50 fee and children 17 years or younger are free. The correct website is www.nexus.gc.ca, this will take you to the Canada Border Serves Agency.

One third party site charges $220 USD and another $100 for what it calls “speeding up the interview process”. The CBSA put out a warning stating: “third parties cannot speed up the process – in fact, if people use them, their Nexus card could be delayed or denied”. These sites are also taking personal information such as birth certificates, passports and drivers licence numbers.
