NewLeaf, a new travel company offering discount prices on air fare, took off from the runway with its first flight out of Hamilton.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the John C. Munro International airport on July 25th, shortly before the plane took flight to Winnipeg. The company now offers flights to and from 11 cities across the country, including Halifax, Kelowna and Edmonton. The company’s goal is to sell tickets 25 to 40% cheaper than its competitors and customers say they see the savings.

It’s a bare bones approach, NewLeaf offers only a seat and a seat belt, anything else will cost you extra. The company’s CEO says they plan to grow rapidly and hope to have flights heading south of the boarder by this winter.
