A new thriller movie that was filmed in Hamilton is set to be released in the new year.

Neon Lights focuses on issues faced when dealing with mental health, childhood trauma and financial and familial failures. The film was written and produced by Dana Abraham who also co-starred with Canadian icon Kim Coates.

The movie revolves around a tech tycoon, Clay Amani, who is suffering from internal issues that stem from his traumatic childhood growing up in a foster home. In order to heal, Clay retreats to an off-the-grid location where he has to confront his siblings, only to be caught in a disturbing killing spree within his new estate.

“We wanted to focus on mental health and healing,” said Abraham, who is also the CEO of Hamilton-based film production company Red Hill Entertainment. “But at the same time, we wanted to wrap it up in a commercially viable thriller so that the audience would enjoy that process and question everything about themselves and the film.”

Neon Lights was filmed in Hamilton during the second wave of COVID-19, all while being able to employ more than 300 employees to contribute to the city’s economy and film sector.

Abraham said Neon Lights is expected to be released in 2022.

Another film that Red Hill Entertainment recently wrapped up in Hamilton is called A Hundred Lies. On top of starring in the movie, Abraham wrote and produced the screenplay as well.

This movie shows the behind-the-scenes of Canada’s music scene and the everyday struggles performers go through to give it all they have.

The cast includes popular Netflix stars, including Rob Raco from Riverdale, Jessica Amlee from Heartland and Toronto-based recording artist K.Forest.
