Multiple alarm fire in Hamilton causes over $500K in damages

A suspicious fire in Hamilton on Monday resulted in an estimated excess of $500,000 in damages, according to the Hamilton Fire Department.

The structural fire was reported to the fire department to a multi unit residence at Dundurn St. South shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Fire crews on scene reported heavy fire and smoke at the back of the unit.

Crews say the alarm was upgraded to a multiple alarm to bring additional resources to the scene.

Firefighters began an aggressive search and rescue operation.

Crews say no one was in the building and the residence had just gone through renovation.

No injuries to firefighters were reported as a result of the incident.

According to a statement, the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified as the fire is deemed suspicious.
