Mother of three killed on Fairview street

First Published:

Co-workers and friends of the woman killed by a driver on Fairview street in Burlington have identified her as 58 year old Maureen Magas.

A memorial for Maureen described her as a cheerful, loving woman, who was above all else a dedicated mom of three.

Co-workers have said she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

On July 14th at around 10 o’clock in the morning Magas, a book keeper at Bathroom Galleries for 20 years, had just started her shift.

She was outside to put out lawn signs, when a 73 year old man, driving erratically down Fairview Street, mounted the curb on the wrong side of the road, onto the sidewalk.  He hit a 19 year old man first and then hit Magas, who died on scene. The teen lost one of his legs below the knee on impact

Police have said the driver of the vehicle was found in the backseat of his SUV and suspect he was having a medical emergency and lost control of his vehicle.  They are still investigating whether he was conscious at the time of the incident. He is now in stable condition.  No charges have been laid against him.

Co-workers have started a GoFundMe page to help Magas’ children with funeral expenses
