No fire alarm battery leads to woman, child, hospitalized

First Published:

A woman has life-threatening injuries and a girl around the age of five is in critical condition after they got caught in an apartment fire on Glen Road yesterday evening. Investigators are saying the building’s alarm system was missing a battery and that was a cause for the eventual rescue.

The blaze started on the sixth floor. Flames were visible when the first respondents arrived immediately turning the incident into a multiple alarm fire. Firefighters performed first aid on the pair after they completed the rescue. They were then transported to the hospital.

A cat was also able to be rescued and revived while a dog died in the apartment.

The reason for the fire is still unknown and the names of those caught in the fire have not been released.

Investigators are still on scene. CHCH News will have more information during the 6:00 p.m. newscast which you can stream online at chch.com.
