Hamilton mayor Andrea Horwath sat down with Annette Hamm to discuss everything happening in the city right now, and there is a lot.

On Friday night there was a daytime shooting near Jackson Square, where an innocent bystander lost her life. The suspect- 17-year-old Mackale Lavoie- is still at large and wanted by police.

“It’s something that should never be happening. We have too many guns on our street” said Horwath about the shooting.

There was also a big development on the Jamesville project, where housing has sat empty since 2019.

“We finally have gotten some light at the end of the tunnel. It’s called the Ministerial Zoning Order.”

This order will create an unappealable decision around the housing being built and get shovels in the ground hopefully soon.

Mayor Horwath also commented on the LRT, as a major intersection in Hamilton’s east end will be closed staring tomorrow for LRT related construction. Parkdale Avenue at Main Street East will be closed until Wednesday as crews install a large watermain.

And in lighter news, she is very happy about TD Coliseum and Paul McCartney being the opening act.
