GPS to GO equips commercial trucks with logging device after new mandate

All commercial trucks operating in Canada (including U.S. trucking carriers that operate across the border) must now be equipped with an electronic logging device certified by an approved third party testing entity. GPS to GO is one of the companies certified to be a source for North American trucking. President and owner, Russ Salo joined us this morning to talk about it.

By June 12, 2022, the federal government is going to require any commercial carrier to use electronic logging. Salo says it is for safety.

“This way, you’re able to really understand how many hours a driver is sitting behind the wheel, safety on those highways for everybody involved,” said Salo.

The Electronic Log Book system plugs into the ECM port of the brain of the truck where the engine is scanned. It is then able to track road speed, see engine hours, which makes it easier to coordinate when the driver was driving, how long he was driving and how fast they were going.

Salo says trucking companies should use GPS to GO because it is Canadian made and there is no contracts, no roaming fees, no overages and it is future proof.

“You can do your basic tracking…but if you need something like tablet holders or dash cams, we have those,” said Salo.
