Canadian Intelligence Officer turned author launches new book series in Jason Bourne universe

Former Canadian intelligence officer turned author has just been handed the keys from the Robert Ludlum estate to launch a new book series in the Jason Bourne universe and he joined us on Morning Live! 

Simon Gervais says his mom introduced him to Robert Ludlum’s work when he was ten years old. The Jason Bourne series is the main reason he had become a reader, and he says it may have played a role in his enthusiasm to become a federal agent specializing in counterterrorism and intelligence gathering operations. Gervais did this for almost 15 years as an RCMP officer. 

“I took a leap of faith, I always wanted to become an author,” said Gervais. “I found a great agent in New York and I sold my first book.”

He says his career really took off when his book Hunt Them Down was released. 

The Robert Ludlum’s estate and Putnam Books has given Gervais the honour to write and launch a new series within the Jason Bourne universe featuring BLACKBRIAR counter-intelligence unit. 

“I was taken aback and a little bit anxious also because it’s stepping into the shoes of a literary icon that sold over 300-million books,” said Gervais. 

Gervais previously wrote the Pierce Hunt series. His latest book The Last Protector features a Secret Service agent who takes on a ruthless foe to protect the country he serves and the woman he loves. 

Former air force combat rescue officer Special Agent Clayton White now works for the Secret Service performing routine escort missions for politicians. These missions may not be quite as exciting as his time in the military, but Clayton’s okay with that. It gives him more time to see his girlfriend, Veronica Hammond- an archeologist who also happens to be the vice president elect’s daughter. 

Clayton’s seemingly manageable new routine takes a startling turn when South African mercenaries target Veronica at an awards gala celebrating her work. After this attempt on Veronica’s life, Clayton enters a complicated web of lies, betrayal and dangerous government secrets.
