Monday marks deadline to enter Ontario Liberal leadership race

First Published:

Monday is the last day for Liberals hoping to become the next leader of the provincial party to throw their names in the hat.

Former cabinet ministers Steven Del Duca, Michael Coteau and Mitzie Hunter are already in the leadership contest, as are former party candidates Kate Graham and Alvin Tedjo.

The Ontario Liberal party suffered the worst defeat in its history in 2018, losing official party status and prompting former premier and leader Kathleen Wynne to resign.

Ottawa South MPP John Fraser is the party’s interim leader. He won the position by a unanimous vote.

The deadline for candidates to enter the race is set for 5 p.m.
