Milton is the first community in Ontario to receive a torch relay community grant of $7500 to celebrate the arrival of the flame for the Pan Am or Parapan Am games.
Ontario’s minister of tourism, culture and sport, Michael Coteau met with athletes at the Pan Am games velodrome in Milton this morning. He announced $750 million in grants will be available to communities to welcome 3,000 torch-bearers on their way to open the Pan Am games on July 10th and the Parapan Am games on August 7th.
“This is fantastic news for Milton, this funding will go a long way in helping celebrations here to be that much more special. I encourage all Canadians across Ontario including First Nations communities participating in the relays to submit their application as soon as possible as the deadline approaches on May 20th.”
More than 10-thousand athletes and officials from 41 nations will participate in the games at 51 venues, including Hamilton.
