Migrant worker dies due to COVID-19 in Haldimand-Norfolk

Haldimand-Norfolk officials confirm that a migrant worker who had been hospitalized due to COVID-19 had died. In a statement today, Mayor Kristal Chopp, who is the chair of the board of health said:

“It’s an absolute tragedy that someone who comes to Canada to work in the agricultural industry and support his family back home loses his life so far from his loved ones.”

Chopp, travelled to the Scotlynn group farm last night to deliver the news. The worker was one of 199 migrants and people associated with the farm who had tested positive for the virus. Those who had been in isolation have now returned to their residences at the farm. Two migrant workers remain in hospital, one in the ICU.
