Memorial parade goes ahead despite rain

First Published:

The rain was pelting down Friday evening at the Smith’s Knoll Memorial Parade and Service.

Heavy rain was falling on the hundreds of people watching and taking part in the parade. While the umbrellas almost outnumbered the bayonets, the people taking part in parade dressed in military uniforms past and present couldn’t help but get soaked. In fact, organizers ended up cutting the parade short and getting everyone to go back to the Royal Canadian Legion early as the weather was so bad. The Battle of Stoney Creek is considered one of the most important news events in Canada’s history. The British victory in the pivotal battle was crucial in the Americans from taking Upper Canada.
