Roughly $45,000 worth of marijuana has been seized after officers found it hidden inside tires at the Rainbow Bridge.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says the K9 team alerted officers to five spare tires in the back of a cargo van on Monday.
Officers discovered several bags of marijuana and arrested two United States residents.
Both citizens were processed by CBP, turned over to the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and subsequently referred to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
“This seizure demonstrates that close collaboration between HSI and CBP can have a significant impact on stemming the flow of illegal narcotics,” said Kevin Kelly, special agent in charge HSI Buffalo in a news release. “By working with our law enforcement partners on both sides of the border, Homeland Security Investigations will continue to identify, disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations engaged in cross-border crime.”
