Maple Leafs fire President and General Manager

Brian Burke has been fired as President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Burke was introduced as the President and General Manager of the Leafs, replacing interim general manager Cliff Fletcher, on November 29th, 2008.

He has over a year left on a six year contract. A press conference is expected at the Air Canada Centre at 1:45.

The Leafs had not made the playoffs in Burke’s tenure and are coming off a disappointing 13th-place finish in the Eastern Conference.

Before joining the Maple Leafs, Burke previously served as GM of the Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks and Hartford Whalers.
