Man killed by train identified

First Published:

Police have identified the man hit and killed by a train yesterday as a 30-year old St. Catharines man; but say they won’t be releasing his name.

He was hit by an eastbound freight train at the Merritt Street overpass.

Police say he was trying to cross the tracks when two trains were going in opposite directions.

They say for some reason he didn’t see the train heading eastbound, and stepped right into its path.

Residents who live nearby say people walk along and cross the tracks all the time.
